Concrete Services in Northridge, CA | GN Builders
Concrete is one of the most versatile and durable building materials available — and one of the most unforgiving when done wrong. Proper mix design, reinforcement, forming, and finishing all determine whether a concrete installation lasts 50 years or starts cracking within five. GN Builders provides professional concrete services for residential projects throughout Northridge and the San Fernando Valley, from driveways and patios to foundations and retaining walls.
Concrete Services We Offer
Concrete Driveways
A concrete driveway adds curb appeal, increases property value, and outperforms asphalt in Southern California’s heat. We form, reinforce with rebar or wire mesh, pour, and finish residential driveways with proper control joints to manage cracking and drainage grading to direct water away from your home.
Concrete Patios
A concrete patio is the foundation of your outdoor living space. We pour standard broom-finish, smooth, or exposed aggregate patios sized to your yard and lifestyle — properly reinforced and graded for drainage.
Stamped Concrete
Stamped concrete replicates the look of natural stone, brick, slate, or wood at a fraction of the cost. We apply decorative stamps and integral or surface-applied color to create driveways, patios, and walkways with high-end visual appeal and the durability of concrete.
Concrete Foundations
Every addition, ADU, detached garage, and new structure needs a properly engineered foundation. We pour stem wall foundations, slab-on-grade foundations, and continuous footings per engineered plans and local building code requirements.
Concrete Flatwork
Sidewalks, walkways, pool decks, garage floors, shed pads, equipment pads — any flat concrete surface. We form, pour, and finish flatwork to the required thickness and finish for the intended use.
Concrete Retaining Walls
Sloped yards often need retaining walls to create level usable space, prevent erosion, and manage drainage. We form and pour concrete retaining walls engineered for the soil load they’re holding — including proper drainage behind the wall to prevent hydrostatic pressure buildup.
Concrete Steps & Stairs
Exterior concrete steps from grade to entry, from patio to yard, or as part of a retaining wall system are formed and poured to meet building code riser and tread requirements, with non-slip broom finish as standard.
Concrete Removal & Replacement
Old, cracked, or settled concrete needs to be broken out before new work can be done. We demo existing flatwork with jackhammers and remove all debris before forming and pouring new concrete.
Decorative Concrete Coatings
Existing concrete slabs that are structurally sound but cosmetically worn can be resurfaced with micro-topping, spray-knock, or overlay systems that restore appearance without full demolition and replacement.
Concrete Finishes We Apply
The finish coat determines the final look, slip resistance, and maintenance of your concrete:
- Broom finish — standard residential finish; textured lines provide traction; most common for driveways and walkways
- Smooth trowel finish — flat, polished appearance; used for garage floors and interior slabs
- Exposed aggregate — surface cream is washed off while concrete is green, revealing embedded stone; attractive and slip-resistant
- Stamped — decorative patterns pressed into surface before final set; mimics stone, brick, or slate
- Salt finish — rock salt pressed into surface then dissolved, leaving small pits; subtle texture; popular for pool decks
- Stained / colored — integral pigment mixed into pour, or acid stain applied after curing; wide range of colors and effects
Why Choose GN Builders?
Licensed General Contractor — License #1134674. Foundation work, retaining walls, and structural concrete require a licensed contractor and city permits. We manage all permit applications and inspections.
Engineered Where Required — Retaining walls over 4 feet and foundations for permitted structures require engineered plans. We work with structural engineers and submit plans as part of the permit process.
Full-Service Scope — Concrete is rarely the only trade on a project. An ADU foundation requires framing, plumbing rough-in, and electrical conduit placed before the pour. We coordinate all trades so nothing gets buried in the wrong place.
No Shortcuts on Prep — We don’t pour over bad base material, skip reinforcement, or rush the cure. Every step is done correctly because concrete failures are costly to fix and impossible to hide.
Free Estimates — We visit your site, assess existing conditions, and provide a detailed written estimate at no charge.

Frequently Asked Questions — Concrete Services
How long before I can use my new concrete driveway?
You can walk on concrete after 24–48 hours. Vehicle traffic should wait a minimum of 7 days, and heavy vehicles should wait 28 days for full cure strength. We advise on timing based on your specific mix and weather conditions.
Why is my existing concrete cracking?
Most residential concrete cracking is normal and expected — concrete shrinks as it cures and cracks along the path of least resistance. Control joints are placed to direct cracking. Structural cracking (wide gaps, vertical displacement, or cracking through the full depth) can indicate subbase failure or settlement and should be assessed. We provide honest evaluations of whether a crack warrants repair or replacement.
Can you pour concrete in hot weather?
Yes, with precautions. In the San Fernando Valley’s summer heat, we adjust the concrete mix, schedule pours for early morning, use chilled water in the mix, and apply curing compound immediately after finishing. Hot, dry conditions accelerate surface drying and can cause surface defects if not managed.
